Well!! It was certainly a voyage of discovery, about many things, including our fitness level!!
We caught a train to Kortrijk, not sure of spelling, and then a bus to Wakken Trog. Don´t you just love that name! The driver of the bus was a little concerned as there was only one bus back that day as it was a Saturday. We arrived in Wakken at about 1.13pm and the driver even got off the bus to show us where to flag down the driver of the return bus - at 18.30pm. We thought, ok, must be a bit to do in Wakken!! How wrong we were. It is just one street, with a central meeting, market type area. The only shops, places open were a lotto shop, where the man told us there were no taxis in the area, a restaurant, where we had a very tasty lunch and looked up Bulte in the phone book, and yes there are some, but not in Wakken itself, rather the surrounding districts, even a N.Bulte - and we have the photo to prove it!!, and a supermarket that we explored from top to bottom and where I bought the most georgous bear. It was freezing cold and with 3 hours to wait (nowhere To wait) we asked the girl at the restaurant for the best way to get back to Kortirjk and the train. The only way was to walk approx 8km to another village where we could catch a train or bus. After a short discussion, we decided that walking was better than waiting so set off!! The sun was going down and we had to walk through the countryside on the bike path (thank heavens for the bike path as people drive very quickly on the open road). We stopped at a pub for more directions and were finally at the entrance to the station when the train arrived. We had to run (picture that!!) through the underpass and up the stairs to get to the platform. As we got to the train, the doors started to close so I jumped on and held them open with my hands and one leg (picture that) all the while saying to Hannah ¨get on¨ She had to squeeze past me, but we made it!! We didn´t have a ticket, coz we had no time to buy one, so had our fingers crossed that no guard would come on.
We made it back to Kortrijk in time for the next train back to Brussels, which was about the time the bus was winding its way to Wakken!!!.
So, that was quite an adventurous day and one we are not too keen to repeat. We did like Kortrijk and I managed to find some tops for me!! Yay
We are now in Madrid and I am still trying to catch up with this blog so more next time.

Soooo much running.....And, what a delightful name. I wonder if Kariaotahi has the same ring about it to Belgian ears as Wakken Trog does to ours. How wonderful that you are in Madrid. Looking forward to hearing all bout it.
