And so at last, to SPAIN!!!

We caught at taxi from the hotle to the airport in Brussels in the end, too much lifting and hoofing our bags otherwise. We checked with a very friendly man, who wanted to know all about NZ, seems they don´t have too many visitors from down under.
Our flight was uneventful - just what you want from an aeroplane flight, and we landed in Spain on time. We swept out of the arrival doors expecting to see a sign with our names and a friendly face welcoming us, but, you guessed it! Nada!!! We waited 45 mins and tried to phone 3 times but still nothing. I walked round looking expectantly at all the people with cards but still nada.
In the end we caught a taxi to the address of our homestay.
When we got there, we discovered that it was a huge appartment block, (of course there are many here). We got in the front door when two girls came out as there was no reply to our use of the buzzer. We took the lift up to the first floor and knocked on the door and rang the bell, still nada. By this time I was getting very peeved. We went down to the ground floor again and this time I was able to speak to someone on the phone from the school.
In a few minutes, Pilar, the lady we are staying with, came down. Turns out she was in her apartment the whole time. Go figure!! She said that there was someone at the airport but I certainly didn´t see anyone, so there is a mystery for you.
Our room is small but comfortable, we have a wardrobe each with a table inthe middle that you have to shift if you want to open the wardrobe door, no biggie.
We catch a bus nearly at the front door and get off not too far from the school. Quite good.
We are in different classes which are small, 6-10 people only and there are students from all over the world which is really interesting. We start at 1.30 and finish at 6.30, then by the time we have caught the bus home, it´s about 7.30, and very dark.
So, that will be our week, we are eating real Spanish home-cooked food and Hannah and I have been able to eat everything so far, even the strange white, thick soup the first night. I think it might have been potato and garlic but I´m not sure.
Ok, time for you to send me a comment!!! If you don´t have a blog address, just send an email to my gmail. spanishviv@gmail.com coz we would love to hear from you too. Thanx to my regular commentees!!!
Hasta luego

Pleased you are enjoying the local cuisine. Do you have easy access to internet or are you still restricted to internet cafes? Hard to think of you guys freezing when it is blisteringly sweltering here. Still what a wonderful place in which to be cold! In fact, we need a bit of rain now and we are having to start conserving water as the tank is running low. This is indeed a challenge when I have about 12 loads of washing to do combining my annual spring clean with the return from camp.
I took Lynn to the airport yesterday - she is now somewhere in Perth, in transit to somewhere much further away from Perth. I'm just about to head off to school to declutter my classroom and prepare for the upcoming year. And so it begins......
Looking forward to hearing all about Madrid.

Viv I am so happy to hear that you and Hannah are enjoying your travels. It sounds very exciting I am following closely and look forward to reading about your stay in Spain. It must of been quite distressing to arrive to no one. It sounds as if all is going as planned although a bit abscured at times. Hope you get all you can absorb from this adventure and I looking forward to reading all about it! I miss you guys already. Hugs to Hannah and you both.
